Abstract The island of Cyprus has a long history human impacts, including the introduction more than 250 plant species. One these introduced species is Juglans regia (walnut), which considered naturalised non-native (introduced in last 500 years). Here we report earliest occurrence pollen grains from sedimentary deposit on Cyprus. recovered Akrotiri Marsh provides an date 3,100-3,000 cal yr bp . This Bronze Age sporadic. However, by 2,000 signal becomes persistent and indicates that or expansion was highly likely Roman period. We integrate our new results with younger occurrences Cyprus, archaeobotanical record documentary evidence to provide overview this archaeophyte. Our findings show that, following conventions Flora should be reclassified indigenous.
